Tea for both of them it is; she has a pot already, so she can pour a second cup for Stephen. It's a blend, some of the stuff with caffeine mixed with something a bit more floral not unlike chamomile.
Once he's settled with it, she opens: "So. First thing's first. How are you holding up?" It's not as if she's missed how the last couple of weeks have gone, at least the things public enough for her to know about. That's plenty on its own.
His fingers drum against his knees, restless. “It’s not like I’m the one with the amputated limb,” Stephen says, and some of it is the residual pride and thinking his own mental state isn’t worth checking up on, but some of it is just —
“Tavane is through the woods, thanks to Enchanter Isaac’s efforts. We were damned lucky people retrieved him in time. I’ll be in touch with some of the external healers Riftwatch has relationships with, just to keep those contacts fresh, but it’s not the same as them being here in-house; it remains a weakness in the infirmary that no one else specialises quite like Isaac does.”
It’s not too hard to notice that he hasn’t actually answered the question, and instead pivoted straight to the professional report.
( Weird to think that it was over two years ago now. He has to cast his mind back, remembering the details of that particular world; he’d mostly stayed close to camp, near-useless without his magic, hadn’t been able to join that mission to the Rat King. )
The Scars. That was the weird cult with the facial scarification, right?
"Hey, could be worse. For a while we had a guy here selling literal snake oil and no doctors." It's mostly a joke, but also: true. She hated that guy.
"I think no one would be mad if we recruited some more healers or medical professionals, but on the other hand, everyone knows you're doing your best with what you have. And I never loved the make it look like an accident part of her plan, which put you at a disadvantage from the start with her care. I'm glad she's doing better, though."
She didn't miss his evasion, but she keeps that in her pocket for now. They'll probably get back there. In the meantime, she adds, "She's probably not going to be the last one who wants to try amputation, for what it's worth. Though I hope we can convince people to just do it openly if they're going to. I get Ness didn't want to pressure anyone, but we've seen the downsides of secrecy now."
