THE DREAM.
Doctor Stephen Strange’s mind is a haunted house.
His most recurring nightmare warps the Fade into the shape of the Sanctum Sanctorum in ruins: an over-large Gothic mansion in disrepair, crumbling under a grey-black sky with a vortex above it swallowing everything into oblivion. There’s an impossible ocean lapping at its shores and it’s often difficult to leave the area, as if the territory simply falls off at a certain point.
The building is bigger on the inside than the outside, and the rooms indoors are filled with cluttered occult paraphernalia, piles of books, and many, many locked doors of memories he’d rather not examine. A chronic insomniac, Strange doesn’t sleep well even at the best of times. He’s gotten fairly good at bricking up his psychic defenses, but it’s also very likely that he’s exhausted enough that someone or something can wander in.
Any spirits or demons set on causing psychological havoc might take the shape of Stephen himself (or at least a version of him): a tall, unhealthily sallow man, with long bedraggled hair and a messy beard. He does not look well.
